    M1917 Front Sight Removal

I can't remove the front sight on my 1918 Winchester. Brass rod, brass hammer. Soaked that thing for days. Can't get the front sight to budge. Removed the pin ok just don't want to damage the sight or barrel. 3-19 Winchester barrel. Someone had painted all the metal a hideous black and I tried to remove as much as possible from around the sight. I don't know if it soaked under the sight and is acting as glue?? I have had these sights off before and they weren't this hard to get off. Is there a special tool? Any help is much appreciated.

Kind of goes against my better thinking but lo and behold. Two blows and it comes off.

Would an electric impact driver be overkill on something like that? I am having the same problem with a Winchester P14, and I was thinking of getting something similar to that made for removing sights.
