Using the military sights on the 03a3
I'm going to be taking my 03a3 to the range this week for the first time. Anyone have suggestions on the settings for the sights to get me started? I understand the windage adjustments, but what about the elevation? If I start at 50yds shooting the Winchester 125gr Reduced Recoil catridges what would be a good setting?
I see it starts at the bottom, then the detents are 2-8. Should I start at 2? Any guidelines on how much elevation I should see?
I hope this question makes sense, if not I guess I'll figure it out Friday at the range
thanks,
dave

The sights should be regulated for 150 gr - ish bullets moving at 2700-2800 ish fps. Full down would be 100 yds , 2-8 would be 200-800 yds. Change ammo specs or shooting closer will change that . Just have to try it and see. There should be a letter ( A-E ) on the front blade or ( blank - D ) if it's marked below the base's top edge. These will change the POI about 2 inches per letter change if that needs to be done.

I do shoot A LOT of oldmilsurps, usually with lead loads in the 1200-1500 fps range and have learned tnat almost all of them hit POA at 100 yds with the rear leaf set at 400 yds. A BIG piece of cardboard (4x4) or so helps, as does doing initial sighting in at 50 yds. I have no idea how your ammo will do, but I'd start at a 200 or 300 yd setting and go from there. As always, of course, your mileage may vary. Luck.
