I am in the process of buying a 03-A3 that has been sporterized into a Varmit rifle. Heavy barrel chambered in 22-250. Beautiful Walnut stock. Who ever put this rifle together did very good job on part of it but managed to leave out one very important thing.

There is currently NO SAFETY either the original one on the bolt or one on the after market trigger.

Needless to say since I'm not a moron nor do I want to be in the running for a Darwin Award. I need to get a safety back on this pretty shooter.

I have two choices I can replace the fancy aftermarket trigger with a Timeny that has a built in trigger block safety do a little rasping and reworking or the stock to allow it to fit. Cost will be around $100.00

Second choice is to replace the current bolt shroud and go back to one with the built in safety using a low profile style to avoid the scope. Cost unknown.

Any of you guys had to deal with something similar in returning an O3-A3 to Military trim?

Your thoughts?

And yes I agree its to bad its not still in original trim. But its way past that now. And I do have a very nice M1903 c1918 in my rack so I know what is what.
