Possible New Book In The Works

A Woman's attempt to understand and cope with the M1icon Carbine Addiction.

    What is Carbine Addiction?
How bad is this addiction and can it be cured?
How does it affect the lives of those close to a Carbine Addict.

A few M1 carbine collectors and I were doing what we do, talking about carbines when a young female author who had quietly endured listening to a couple hour long discussion of stocks, parts integration, sub contracts and lateral support inquired "What is the attraction to these rifles"

Caught off guard I found myself speechless for a moment, then after giving her the usual replies we've all used on our wives, girlfriends, co-workers, friends, neighbors etc. I realized I hadn't answered her question, just looking in her glazed over eyes pretty well insured me of that. It was that same look we've all seen time after time. Then I quietly thought to myself how do I answer this? I'm the one my wife and daughter found asleep with a Rock Ola barreled receiver while laid up hurt.

She's had a number of books published and began tossing around the idea of putting together a read for the gals and friends (The Non Afflicted Ones) in our lives with an attempt at trying to help them cope and answer a few of these questions for them. My impression..... She was thinking of a How To Guide along the lines of- How To Deal With a Carbine Addict, The Afflicted Ones. I think a book like this would have to cover a lot of bases. Hardcore Addicts spend day and night searching auction sites. Reading and posting on endless forums. Swapping, trading, gun show deals, gun range dealings, buying and selling with fellow addicts, club and forum members. Running from gun show to gun show with state boundaries meaning nothing more than the lines on the road. Garage sales, flea markets, pawn shops, both large and small gun shops, both near and far. Even dealing from other countries across the globe. Time zones, international calls, count less E-mails and area codes taken for granted in the quest. The author would have to take all of this into account and more to begin to explain our actions, our endless search.

I'd have to say it is amusing to laugh at ourselves. So this potential book if written with some humor and she can get the point across that we collect these for many reasons like the history and as investments etc, could only help us The Afflicted Ones. That anything she can get The Non Afflicted Ones to understand and that helps them live comfortably with us, would be good for the cause. A understanding that proves hey ! He isn't crazy.

Any Advise, Thoughts or Suggestions from you The Afflicted Ones that I could pass along to her?

    One last question,
Do you think The Non Afflicted Ones among us would appreciate or have a interest in a book like this?

I'd order a dozen copies to hand out to The Non Afflicted Ones It could do nothing less than make my life easier.

    Regards,
