    Stocks touching foresight

Should the forestock tip and/or front top HG tip touch the foresight base, or should there be a knats knacker of air between them on a #4 Mk1.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. There should be a decent gap, in order to allow free movement of the barrel.

Some rifles have been fitted with replacement forends where the back of the forend (the part that lies against the butt socket) has been left oversize, pushing the whole forend forward. The back of the forend and the recoil faces need to be balanced so that the forend sits back far enough from the foresight block.
