    Early production Remington 1917

    I won an early production Remington 1917 on an on-line auction today and wondered if 4 digit rifles command any particular premium.

    I recall that the first Winchester 1917's had issues...any for the early Remingtons?

    The pictures weren't great, nor was the description, but I bid accordingly.

    Description (such as it was) advised;
    U.S. 1917 Enfield Rifleicon sn# 5514 early production
    WWI year with low serial number (first week of production).

    I haven't really notice a whole lot of the low serialed rifles coming up for sale so I can't say I've noticed whether they tend to command a premium. This one sure looks nice though. Like you noted, the early Winchester's had some issues but from what I have read the Remington's didn't have those early production issues.

    Thanks, Bear

    I'm kind of excited about this one. Recently I thought I had one both a Winchester and a Remington 1917 rifle at an on-line auction. Due to some snafu by the auction house, the Remington actually was sold to someone on the floor and not to me (I was an internet bidder).

    I called the auction house yesterday and they confirmed I was the winner on this one.

    Better pics/description/range report when it arrives.

    The Remington finally arrived last week.

    Kinda a collection of parts...Remington receiver, Eddystone barrel and a collection of the small parts. Nice looking original finish stock.

    Bore looks good and gauges a "2" on the CMPicon muzzle gauge. Bolt does not close on a US Ordnance field gauge.

    Range report to follow.
