    RS Stamped Stacking Swivel

I always knew these things existed as I have had many. I had a hunch that they were a spare parts contract. Many have said they were part of rifle production. That I do not know.

Finally I found the package which shows it as a spare part for the 03A1, which makes it early.

I have heard two different identifications of the maker for Remington. I have faith that John Beardicon knows the real one.

I cannot find the contract for either possibility because it is a sub contract of Remington and not a contract directly with Ordnance. In order to be sure in my mind I would have to have access to Remington's records, which I don't.

    RS Stamp

FWIW, the WWII subcontractor list I have shows 'RS' as Rome Specialty Company in Rome, New York.

If the swivels in your package are not mounted on bands they are replacements for the M1903A1 (the standard name for Springfield type rifles in WWII). Replacement swivels for M1903A3s are permanently assembled to a band by an upset screw. Swivel, A130038, is a spare only for M1903 and M1903A1 rifles per ORD 7 SNL B-3. You can always use them but the staked screw is not meant to be removed and re-installed on M1903A3 and A4 rifles.
