    Battlefield Relics

I've just purchased the remains of an '07 quillon bayonet & need some advice. Back in the 60s it was common to put things into a clear compound & make paper-weights of them. I thought this might be a good idea for this relic as it would stop bits flaking off & preserve it longer. Can anyone tell me what the process is called & what are the feelings about preserving this way or leaving it bare for the "touchy feely" factor?

The clear compound you are referring to is polyester resin. It's the stuff used to make fiberglass products.

For casting there is a special clear resin. Most other resins have a light tint in them which is not what you would want.

I suggest you google "polyester resin casting" to find out the pro's, con's and processes.
