1937 Ishapore SMLE.
Found a pretty darn decent 1937 Ishapore SMLE today, all matching, no import mark, considering purchasing it. If I do, it will be the earliest Ishapore I have bought. Wondering how the quality is on these. Does not seem to be as 'rough' as most folks have described. Just wanted to get some thoughts on it. Will post pics if I get it. Thanks!

Early Ishapores are really nicely made and are at least as good quality as their English manufacture contemporaries. Purchase with confidence. Not an altogether common rifle!

Good to hear. I think that will definitely be making the purchase tomorrow. I have owned two 1950 Ishapores, and both were solid rifles. Looking forward to sharing it with you guys.

looking forward to seeing what you get , i sold/gifted all of my ishapores many years ago when i narrowed the focus of my efforts and downsized the accumulation , but i was very happy with every example i had purchased - you should be happy with this one

Some 0000 steel wool and oil ought to tame most of the brown spots.
I've seen worse!

Yep! I got it..again, it looks worse in the pics than it is. The bore is mirror! Nicest I've ever seen on an Ishy.
Watching 'The Man Who Would Be King'..with all these Raj dated rifles about me....wish all of us similar minded enthusiasts could be here enjoying a pint or two!!!!

Ok, it took place quite a few years before this rifle was built, but you guys know what I mean!

Lovely rifle.
Out of interest, the markings look like Mk III (no star). I can't tell from the pics - is the receiver machined for cutoff? Are there volleys? How did Ishapore distinguish Mk III verus III* rifles?

Yes, there was a mag cutoff at one point. Has been restocked at some point. No volley sights. Honestly don't know if it had them previously.
