    Bayonet Type & Date Question

Her is the bayonet that my father got for me in a insain trade for a couple bicycle tire and the owner only gave $7 for it at a yard sale... First off I w3ould like to know if the chrome can be removed and about how much that would be. I know from the handle that it is probablly not a 1917 bayonet but I've read where the early modles did have the smooth hand grips like the Britishicon models. There is a # at the base of the blade but the chrome has filled in all the stamps... Any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    James

Oh, also the mouth (opening) of the sheeth is not a perfect rectangle, and the blade will only go in one way, as it's wider on one side.

I think you have some kind of Mauser bayonet (Spanish, South American ??),
    it is not a M1917 bayonet https://www.libertytreecollectors.co...&idcategory=84
    nor a Britishicon P1907 bayonet https://www.libertytreecollectors.co...&idcategory=84.
Notice how the grips of the M1917 and the P1907 bayonets are cut straight not at an angle, also the metal scabbard is not a M1917 or P1907 item.
Are there any markings on the blade that you can still make out?

The bayonet looks like a long Spanish bayonet with worn grips (usually checkered) but the scabbard does not go with that type. Scabbard could be Czechicon. Most of these long blade bayonets had leather scabbards with metal end caps.

The angled pommel and the long muzzle ring are pretty distinctive, not many types with those features. If it had checkered grips, definitely Spanish. I have seen photos with smooth grips however.
