Early and RAF(?) No4T CES

I note on 'that' auction site item 1408 6778 9313 a B&C 'BRITTANIC' telescope. as I have mentioned several times in the past, and is mentioned in the original post war 1951 sniper military training book, these telescopes plus another similar called the 'NELSON', the Telescopes GP and Telescope, Admiralty Pattern regularly featured in the CES of No4T';s issued to the RAF and Navy/Marines. Presumably the Admiralty pattern were the preserve of the Navy/marines.....

I remember swopping one of these Brittanic telescopes that someone had 'liberated' from a scrapped No4T CES many years ago. So if you have an ex RAF Regiment No4T without a telescope, this might be the thing for you. Generally speaking they had a little A-arrow-M and a 9E--- part number engraved on the first draw by the name.

After the standardisation and pooling of Ordnance Stores in the 70's, these odds and sods were culled and the Sct Regt Tele standardised.

Are the leather scope case caps for the Admiralty scopes slightly shorter than the case caps for the Scout Regiment scope ? In the attached picture the case on the left came with a Scout Regiment Scope but the cap is about 1.2 CM shorter than a SR case cap. It also had a low power lense in a small case arttached to the strap.

I seem to remember that the telescope GP and Admiralty pattern came with just eye caps/cups. Only the Scout, Reg came with a case. Some one correct me if that's NOT the case. The B&C Britannic and Nelsons came with eye cups too but they did also turn up with a long light grey/blue RAF colour webbing sleeve/case

Did they really issue a telescope called the "Nelson"?

I think that these were semi-commercial telescopes just bought in by the RAF or Navy off-the-shelf as we call it just to supplement their own supplies. They also did the same with commercial 6x 30 binos that you'll occasionally see marked with the RAF A-arrow-M mark.

The BRITANNIC that I had/have somewhere was a very nice little scope and far easier and more compact to carry than a Scout Reg
