I really love shooting my un-messed with Inland. Even as much as I shoot it, I doubt if I will wear it out, since it seems to be at the beginning of its service life, tight, great finish, and ME of <1. I doubt if it will change its value much, though I intend on passing it down to my 37 year old son when I kick the bucket. He would love to have the exact same model of rifle his grandfather carried on Iwo Jima.

Also, even though mostly I carry the Kalifornia compliant AR15 as my patrol weapon, I like to "take the Inland for a ride" sometimes, and use it, especially on a day shift when I can do some casual plinking on duty.

I am going to look to pick up a cheap M2 stock to refinish (I can get a "FAT" stock for $20 or so), and use my spare round bolt in it. I'll put the original flat bolt in the bag with the Type II mag catch and push safety, and keep it in a silicone gun sock with the original stock. That way I won't feel as bad "banging it around".

Good idea. I think one of the CMP articles I read about accuracy claimed that the "fat" stocks might actually be better for accuracy. Maybe stiffer?????

I consider the extra cut under the recoilplate shelf found on the late stocks beneficial.
It's a full time worry at the range trying to keep from marking up/damaging a collector stock.
And if the range is busy, we all have been thru the crowd gathering behind you if your using carbines.
I guarantee if you pull out a shooter with a Korean rack number paint job on the stock............ the crowd wanders off

Yep, I am most worried about the stock. I doubt if I will damage the bolt, but still will pop in a round bolt for "shooting and carrying" the weapon. The M2 mag catch i put on for using 30 rounders in it, and the flip safety since I accidentally hit the mag catch several times instead of safety. When I carried carbine as a duty weapon before, I had flip safety. When I want to "show it off" I can just put the original stuff back on.

UPDATE: I actually just picked up an early dark walnut M2 stock with HI in the slingwell, and all metal included on EBAY for $45. It has a very repairable crack that I will pull a Charlie Painter 777 on. Certainly good enough for the purpose. Northridge had FAT stocks for $20, but they had no metal. By the time you get the recoil plate ($15), plate screw ($3), band spring ($3), Butt plate ($10) and Butt plate screw ($3), I'd spend $10 more than this one with the metal included. Maybe I will strip and refinish the "shooter" stock as a winter project.

I have mated all my shooters with M2 potbelly shooter stocks to save the few "collactable" stocks that I have. I actually prefer the SA M2 Walnut for shooting and they are worth their weigh in gold to me. The SA M2 Birch are almost as good. the carbines seem to shoot alot better wearing them. I think several things happen with the potbellies - you get better barrel "hang" with the recoil plate, the front has more rigid support which gives you a better harmonic while shooting, and barrel band gets a better "grip" in the nose.

RM, It is obvious that you are in love with your carbine. But I don't care if you are in California with all the "alternative" lifestyles - you still can NOT marry your Inland!!!!!

I can't marry it??? Darn! My wife does get upset when she feels 5 pounds of steel and wood between us in bed! Just kidding. I actually wanted a pot belly, but I got such a good deal on this one with all the metal included that I just could not pass it up. Nothing that a judicious application of Gorilla Glue won't fix.
