    Single stack magazine

I have a need for a single stack magazine for a project. I'm not after an original 8 round MLM Mk1 mag, but looking at any options either made for .303 or that I might modify to take MkVII rounds in a single stack.
Anyone got any ideas for me?

    Brad.

Weren't Madsen .303 machine gun magazines single stack?

The Israeli Dror definitely had a single-stack .303 mag, but I imagine they make 20-rnd Enfield mags look common....

    Have a look here.

Obviously you'd have to go through the importation paperwork but depending on the value of your project it may be worth it

Not sure what capacity you need - but in 5 round there is the Ross or the Remington Lee - neither common but not unknown to turn up.

Does anyone here have a Ljungman AG42? Could you tell me if the magazine is single or double stack, how wide is it at the back, (how wide would a magazine well have to be to take it) and does a MkVII .303 round fit inside it?

Still looking for options for a project.

NB No original unbuba'd Lee Enfield Riflesicon will be harmed for this project.

The AG-42 mag is a double-stack 10-rounder and is specific to the 6.5 Swede cartridge. Before Johnny "Captain Crunch" had his wicked way in Oz, there were quite a few of these and lesser quantities of the 8 x 57 Egyptian version about the place.

The .303 being rimmed and seriously tapered, your options are limited if you want a single-stack magazine (or any compatible mag, in fact).

HOWEVER.....If you can find a specimen of a magazine for the .303 version of the Israeli "Dror" LMG, you will be doing well. These are a weird single stack mag for the Israeli version of the Johnson LMG. (They were also made in 8 x 57). I suspect that as these are "collector's items" these days, prices may be a bit fierce.

I've seen No1 and 4 mags converted to single stack for 303 Epps conversions as they won't feed double stacked in a standard mag housing since they're wider at the neck. Guide plates were soldered internally to both sides of the mag casing at the rear; then a model 10 Ross platform and spring was used. It should be fairly easy to come up with a Ross platform and spring. Hope this helps. Ron

Thinking on my feet Son, if it's single stack .303 you need, then that is the simplest form of magazine - no? In essence a single stacker is a simple folded sheet steel wrapping that could even be soft soldered along the front overlapping end. As for feed lips, well just copy the Bren magazine. You could also copy the mnagazine case thickness too. I'm sure that the tinnies (that's what we used to call the metalsmiths) could accurately bend if you made a wooden former of the size/shape you need. And for 5 or 8 rounds you wouldn't need a curve if you considered the geometry of the spring and platform...........

Regards from getting cold and wintery Englandicon...........
