Help on scope mount marking No4Mk1 (T)
I have just purchased a M47C sniper. The marking JG appears on the scope mount just below the serial number.
Is this a Holland and Holland subcontractor?
Thanks
Barry

To the best of my knowledge it is thought to be an examiner's mark at the Rose Brothers factory in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, UK
(one of two factories where the brackets were made, prior to being shipped to Holland & Holland). The letters 'KD' are also sometimes found on their brackets, but 'JG' is commoner. The other contractor was Dalgleish in Scotland. Their brackets are marked 'N92', though markings are often missing or unclear on equipment that has been refurbished several times during an often long & hard service career....

5551 is quite an easy scope number to remember. Is it stamped in the wrist of the butt? Is it the only number there?
