I bought an odd scope

I don't know why but I bought this at an auction a few weeks ago for $80. I assume it's for a .50 Browning machine gun, the one before the M1 sight. I think there may be a rubber eyecup and possibly a lense missing from the front. I had never seen one before(maybe that's why I bought it). Did I waste my $80?

It's a neat old sight, well out of use. It's not for the mount group as it now exists, the only evidence I've seen is used on a two wheeled mount from decades ago. I don't think you wasted anything...it would go in the collection beside the gunner's clinometer and your M1 Colt .50 water cooled...
