No 5 Mk 1 Butt Markings

I think Peter Laidlericon will be the only person who can help with this request, my Shirley No 5 Mk 1 has the following markings on the butt:

    26 10 45 (manufacturer date)?

    1 A L (a unit mark)?

    217 (rack number)?

It is a genuine one, SN BB4063, all parts and wood have the matching serial number, it has no import markings. The barrel has a different number on the knox form with a T and the usual Birmingham proof mark, there is no FTR mark anywhere. I wonder if it spent time in Malaya and was brought back to Aus by one of the diggers.

Needs a picture really but none of ours were marked like that and it doesn't seem to be like any of ouur Field or Base workshop numbering

Thanks Peter, hard to take a photo of the butt markings as it has been varnished and they are very faint perhaps after citri stripping the varnish they may be more pronounced. Once stripped will take some photos, any clues as to the T on the knox form.

I'm sure that we'd get the gist of them with a half decent photo as-is, against a steel rule

    For Peter,

After finally ridding the stock of varnish here are the markings nothing like I thought can't upload a picture but they are:

    26 10 48
    1 HL
    217
    C . SQN

The only reference to C SQN 1 HL I could find is the Rhodesian SAS?
