    M1 Garand rear sight question

    M1icon Garand rear sight question

    I found the following list about Springfield early rear sight usage. Does anyone have the same type of information about Winchester early rear sight usage.

    Rear Sight Short Pinion Flush Nut
    Knurled Windage/ Checkered Elevation
    Used from about s/n 200,000 to 500,000.

    Rear Sight Short Pinion Rounded Lock Bar
    Knurled Windage/ Checkered Elevation
    Used from about s/n 500,000 to 1,009,000.

    rear sight

    Attachment 38794Springfield used the very small arrow and the small open arrow on the checkered elevation knob as shown in the first photo. Springfield also used the closed arrow too on the checkered elevation knob too.

    Winchester used both the large and small open arrow on the checkered elevation knob (as ref in The Garandicon Stand Report No 50) second and third photo.

    Winchester used the knurled or serrated elevation knob with the open arrow in the 1.2 million serial number range fourth photo at upper left

    Scott Duff's WW2 book states that Winchester used the "flush nut" until around Jan 1943 than replaced with the type 2 lock bar and pinion
