i just inherited an old lee from my dad. basically i have no idea what this thing is so i need some help ID-ing what it is so that's how i found your forum

above the trigger it says "MA Lithgowicon S.M.L.E. III* 1942"
on the r/h side of the stock it says "Lithgow S.M.L.E. III IV 1943"
on the r/h outside of the chamber it says "E 29053"

the rear iron sight is on a rail with some kind of micrometer adjuster. it has a 10 round clip and the barrel is completely covered in wood. i also have a bayonet and sheath which fit it. there is a hole in the rear of the stock with a lid for supplies.

so what the heck is this thing??? any help appreciated, thanks
