Inland Div 30M1 carbine

Hi I have a 1943 30M1 carbine, inland division general motors serial number 226408, the barrel has "inland division general motors 1-43" stamped on it. the sling hole on the but has
"10" stamped on it as well as the under side of the top forend piece. the trigger assembly has inland stamped on it. I am in canada and looking for price and options to sell this gun?

Welcome to the carbine forum.

Your serial number shows the carbine was made the fist quarter of 1943. Which means the barrel is most likely original to the receiver. From the pictures I see early features. High Wood, I cut stock with a two rivit handguard and type one band. Leaf rear sight, flat bolt, and a checkered safety. I will be looking forward to the internal parts when you take it down. I'm expecting a dog leg hammer and some other early parts. Those would figure into a value, for the better.

The 10 you see is actually an OI and means they were made by S.E. Overton Co. South Haven. Mich for Inland.

You may want to invest in a copy of "US M1 Carbines, Wartime Production" by Craig Riesch. It describes each part, something that a collector will be interested in. And, you might want to borrow a friend's camera if you hope to get top price. You may want to list it in the classified ads on this site; you need to restrict sale to Canada only.

Hi thanx for the info, the pictures are one's i had on my phone just for my reference. I will take much better pictures and set the gun up to look its best. just curious if my local gun shop is accurate with there price of @ $200 in the canadian market? or the $1000-$2000 range is what the gun might go for?

Cut peep sight? not sure what that is? it is a fold down sight a peep on one side and standard "V" on the other side just flips back and forth.

I was given this gun for my birthday 27yrs ago it has been in a gun safe ever since i put 50 rounds through it 25yrs ago and that was it.

The gun shop wants to steal it from you. It's worth more in the $1000 to $2000 range. Detailed pictures would help determine a more accurate price.

Judging by what I can see, I think you have an original, unaltered '43. If you could sell it in the USA, the final bid might really amaze you. Up there in the Yukon, maybe $2K. The stock alone is probably $500. 'Cut peep' refers to the dubious practice of filing out the top of one of the apertures in a 'vee' cut to make a 'buckhorn'-type sight. This provides a much more open sight picture and could be much faster in combat. I do not see any evidence of this on yours, and it was never approved by the military to do it.

Look at the 3rd picture. It's very obvious that the rear sight has been modified.

I'm Sorry i should have posted adequate pictures right from the start, I was in a hurry and just thought if i through some pictures up i would get what i needed to find out in regards to the value of the gun. I will take some detailed pictures so the details will not be obscured.
