1911 in .455 Webley
I am completely new on 1911s, and I ran into a .455 Webley Auto 1911 from somewhere around 1918 probably. Serial is 62.xxx. I've read up on them and found out about their interesting history. But do you think this pistol would be worth picking up? The price is ok, around a few hundreds more than a "vanilla" 1911 from the same period here in my area (Northern Europe). Regular ones go for around 1-1200€, this is 1400€.
I think the pistol has been re-blued at some point; could this have been done by the British
back then? What do you think of originality/collectors value/price etc?
Thanks!!

Interesting collector piece, but good luck ever finding any shooting ammo.

Does the pistol still have the original barrel in .455 caliber, or has it been changed to .45?

Are you sure? If I may ask, in which Country are you located? I purchased a RAF marked M1911 with matching magazine in .455 in Germany
for € 1200 last year.

Yes, the pistol is in .455. And I'm in Finland
, where the pistol is also for sale. I've never seen one for sale here before

Certainly seems to be refinished, but having the .455 barrel and magazine makes it a tempting offering. If you are at all interested in this variant it would probably do until you find a better one. Which might be years down the road!

Some collectors in the USA
do make cartridges for the 455 Webley auto from 45 Long Colt, will require some easy lathe turning and reducing the total length. Buffalo Arms co also sells the correct 225 gr round nose jacket bullets and cartridge brass too. Most use Unique powder and some use lead bullets resized.
