ZfK55 value/info please
While looking in my local hunting shop for a bargin SMLE I came across a very odd looking rifle (I know very little about swiss rifles by the way) which I though was a bargin at NZ
$530.00. Turned out that after much review and comparison with other rifles on the same rack, that I was probably missing a decimal point so the price was actually NZ$5300.00. Anyway, turns out its a ZfK55 with matching numbers and 'ammo tin' (but I think that's the scope container the seller is refering to). Are these rifles really worth that much? I take it they weren't produced in great numbers then?

Don't know how much help this is for you but Peterson's Price and Reference guide lists a Model 1955 with muzzle brake and 3.5 power Kern Aarau telescope with checkered pistol grip and integral bipod at $4500 US in excellent condition, $3500 in very good condition, $2500 in good condition, $1000 in fair condition. I guess there are no poor conditions as there is no price on that grade.

For research, check the example in the MKL
...
In excellent condition such as that example, yes... easily worth that much, in my opinion ...

....or you can try the gent who actually does it for a living and has for many years. AUGUSTUS FINE ANTIQUITIES
Not ALL zfk55s are equal. There are enough of them that were used hard enough to be in rough condition with less than stellar barrels. As I have brought in a few of these myself, I can attest to that.
As with any other rifle, you'll get what you pay for, but knowing the dealer/exporter's reputation well is important with this kind of a blind purchase.
*I should note that I'm not Latigo. I have no account here so I used my son's account and password. Sorry for the break in protocol, but it's important that you know that not all of these zfk55's are in great condition. Know your exporter!

The ZfK is a wonderfully eccentric beast.
The way the action was canted to provide "angled" ejection with a scope mounted on the top centre-line is a neat bit of thinking. As a result, the bolt handle has a "kink" in it and the magazine protrudes at a sideways angle, through the "interestingly" shaped bottom metal / triggerguard.
The complex muzzle "device" is VERY efficient at reducing recoil and breaking up the muzzle blast signature, including flash. They certainly have a different "report" from a K-31 / K-11.
Accurate? With a good barrel and the proper ammo; stunningly so.
I have my eye on a VERY nice one here in Oz, but I will probably have to sell all my body organs to pay for it.

Latigo this time.
If you buy or have a zfk55 there is something that you should absolutely do. Remove the flash suppressor and lathe machine it's bore opening an additional 20 thousands wider.
This will completely eliminate the odd flyer that sometimes happens with this rifle.
