1812 contract musket? Weren't the stocks on those similar? I'll have to look at mine tonight.

It could be. I don't have a lot of pictures of the 1812 contract muskets. It is similar to the Daniel Henkels pictured in Moller, but the wrist is thicker and the comb is almost horizontal while Henkels sloped down.

I don't know if this helps. This is the flat opposite the lock. Looks like a script name or inspection mark. I am wondering if this might not be French

Is there a shadow under the front of the trigger guard plate? Like there was a different style of plate? My 1812 has a finial on the end rather than round like the 1816.

That has the springs behind the bands this one has them in from. I have a type 3 1812 with the springs in front, but it is still not the same. The one I have looks a lot like a French
1777, but without the cheek cut out.
