    Vietnam pics

I dug out some of my pictures of my first tour in Nam, I flew UH-1B helicopter gunships in the 48th AHC. The first picture is a ARVN Major we dropped off at a soccer field up the coast from Na Trang, note his weapon. The 2d Pic is me waiting for convoy escort duty (we escorted convoys from Ninh Hoa to Tuy Hoa), note I carried no sidearm. The last pic is why. The GG rode on the seat armor nicely and I had two thirty round magazines taped back to back. Regards, Rick. PS. I sure was skinny then!

I purchased the Grease Gun for $25 bucks down in the Vil. We were flying for CCN North at the time the picture was taken and the M3 was one of the snake eater's standard issue.....if they wanted one. The unit armorer fixed it up for me with new parts, a flash suppressor and a cleaning kit. I sold it for $50 bucks to a CWO2 when I DEROSED. It never and I mean never jammed. Regards, Rick.

I had one years ago and had to get rid of it. I had 10 mags and would load them all up, go out and be empty in 15 minutes...it had to go...don't recall any jams either.
    Regards, Jim

I also had one in the 80's. Fun gun to shoot. But Calif laws changed and I had to get rid of all my full autos. Probably should have moved.

Good pictures! Just noticed the railroad ties in pict. #2. One of my older brothers told me about a month ago that all the railroad ties in Vietnam were made out of steel. I wondered what they looked like - now I know! Thanks! - Bob

    Here's me with an M3

Taken on Hwy 1 s/o Nha Trang 1966. This belonged to one of our chopper pilots. I took it along just for fun on a convoy. It was neat until I shot it. I couldn't hit anybody unless we were in the same phone booth. Heavy, ammo heavy, but so butt simple it couldn't jam.
Hey Rick: During your travels did you ever see those old Frenchicon pillboxes along the coast N/O Nha Trang? They would be sitting in about 3 acres of blackberry bushes with two paths cut from the road up to the concrete box. I remember thinking that those would be hard to assault but death traps if they got up there without your knowledge.

Hello Dave. Here is the one atop the pass at Vung Ro Bay that guarded Hwy 1. These were all built by the Frenchicon Army years ago. Regards, Rick.
