    Range report 5.4 Inland

Ever wonder why people like the AR platform? My elder son who had not shot anything for perhaps 3 years, takes the AR and holds the 9 ring on an SR-1. Loads were 55gr Winchester military bullets. I drew a picture of what the sight picture should look like. It is a military 1/12 Colt chrome barrel, A2 upper and good RR trigger. My youngest shot the carbine and M1icon, he's a serious shooter. We proved today that the $140 for 2K Yugoicon match 150s are worth the money. The new Inland? Function was flawless, like a machine. I screwed around with the sights and finally had it shooting point of aim (which I don't like). It held the 8 ring easily and I think I can seriously improve on that. I'm not sure the CMPicon carbine ammo is that good. When cleaning it I noticed a spot near the gas port in the barrel, just like my NPM. It must be the place that rust starts for some reason. More later.

Hello Dave. You didn't mention the range you were shooting. You have me confused, are you talking about 3 rifles here? If you are holding the 8 ring with an M1icon Carbine, that's a good thing at 100 yards. If it's an M1 Garand, that would not be so good. Not to be a smart a**, but most of us don't really care what the AR shot on the Carbine forum as comparing the two is like comparing apples to oranges. I have also had issues with the CMPicon Aguila 30 carbine ammo and won't buy any more as I reload them now. Regards, Rick.

    Hi Rick

The AR stuff is just a statement about those fools trying to ban them. The range was 100 yds. 50 yds is the long end of every pistol match I've ever shot and proves absolutely nothing. The M1icon we were shooting is a white sack SA all new. It will shoot MOA at 100. The carbine ammo was the LC72 which functions fine but apparently not as good as my reloads. I've yet to try them in this new carbine but they shoot well in my NPM.

Nice.....very very nice! I checked the Aguila rounds through my chrony and they were down in the 1800'/sec range. I had to set the rear sight to 200 at 100 yards for zero. I would not recommend them as I also had some rounds that wouldn't seat because the brass had expanded. I called the CMPicon and they only guarantee their ammo for two years so they wouldn't replace the defective rounds. On the other hand I have LC that is really good stuff....1966 vintage and shoots great. Your report has inspired me to do some shooting today and I just reloaded some Carbine ammo using lil gun.....I also have a new Garandicon to play with. Regards, Rick.

Let us know how the Lil' Gun works out. I've been wanting to try it, but none available in my area. I want to try 14.1 gr. with 110 gr. plated lead bullets. - Bob

I'm running 15 grains of Lil Gun with 110's. Preliminary looks good at 1970'/sec with very low pressure around 27,000 to 28,000 CUP right out of the new Hodgdon manual. I was going to shoot some groups today, but had to go to piano practice after working with the new Garandicon. Perhaps I can get some shooting done after church tomorrow. Regards, Rick.

Yep, 110 FMJ and using CCI-400 SR primers and I'm really not happy with them as several were very hard to seat. I'd switch to WSR if I could find any, however, none to be had around Northern Missouri........yet. Regards, Rick.

I had terrible problems with the CCI primerrs in my carbine loads: VERY HARD, barely dimpled in either carbine, with occasional failure to fire in both M1icon Carbines. Switched to Wolf primers and they worked 100% with nice deep dimples. I use the CCIs in my 223 loads for my AR, and they still barely dimpled and gave me several failures to fire. NASTY HARD!
