    Value of NM

Hello, there is a National Match rifle available for sale locally. It is 1,310,??? and has a more coarse buttplate, polished serial numbered NS bolt and a C stock with DAL. I believe that the barrel is dated late 29 however I forgot to check for a star gauge mark. There is also a small plate on the right side of the buttstock that says is was given to someone by some unit and it is dated 1930. Just kind of curious on a rough value or any other information.
    Thanks,
    Jarrod

Forgot to mention that it has what looks like the standard military rear sight. Also the cocking knob has no flange to grip it. I did not remember to look for a drawing number on the stock.
    Thanks again,

If you can get the whole serial number, someone can look it up on SRS for you. Also, look for sure about the Star Gauge mark. Also, the serial number should be etched on the bolt body and the serial number should be stamped on the bottom of the stock near the lower butt swivel.

It may have been 1,310,899 but I cannot be sure. The serial number was etched into the polished bolt.
I will go take a closer look.

    Thanks,
    Jarrod

If you got the serial number correct, it is indeed a NM rifle sold with a Type C stock in 1930. I can post some pictures (below) of a real close rifle to the one you looked at - 1,310,733:

Look especially for the Star Gauge number located on the top of the barrel, about 1/3 of the way from the receiver end - you'll have to remove the handguard.

I also have photos of #1,370,112, another NM rifle.

    Thanks Rick T.L.
The serial number is 1,310,899 does that have a hit in any books?
It has a star gauge barrel but there is no number on the stock. The stock is nice but I cannot tell if it has been refinished. The stock does look like in about the same shape as the one you posted, minus the plack on the stock and normal sights.
Does anyone have a guess as to the value based on this information?

    Thanks,
    Jarrod

"...minus the plack"? Do you mean the serial number, the DAL stamp or something else? Is it missing the military sights and just has some other type of rear sight? Please advise!

The sights are standard military sights and do not look like the rear sight you posted.
It has a DAL and a somewhat faint circle P.
Polished NS bolt with etched SN.
No cocking knob on striker(or whatever it's called)
    Coarse checkered buttplate.
    Star Gauged barrel.
No SN on bottom of stock.

    Thanks,
    Jarrod

The stock is probably a replacement, if there is no serial number. The rifle that I posted pictures has a regular military sight - the rear sight has an O'Hare rear sight cover.

What specifically does the "plack" say? What person and what unit? Depending on who it is, that could raise the value of the rifle significantly. Without that, and given the stock is probably a replacement - maybe in the $2000-2500 range.
