Mystery Mauser????

Hello All

I came across a Mauser with no serial # to talk about. Wondering if you guys could Identify it???? Its got a 28 1/4 inch long barrel, its in 8x57mm. The rear sight is graduated to 20??. It has a steel buttplate with brass screws. Barrel band has a groove. The markings that I can see are cV , a 7 'a dot' 91, and a TCT on the lower trigger guard. The rifle also has a straight bolt. Its a large ring mauser, country of origin??? Unfortunately Bubba got to it and cut the stock, but it could be restore with a new stock and a new front barrel band. Just need to know what country??

I can take pictures of it, but have no idea how to post them. If someone wants I can send them the pictures of it?? Also please indicate what size they must be.

Any help would be appreciated.

It looks very much like the GERMAN GEWEHR 98 RIFLE, DANZIG 1916, for sale in the Quartermaster store. Except this one doesn't have finger grooves in the stock and the rear site is different.

barrel is 29 inches long. circle proof mark seem to repeat itself.

I emailed pics to Badger and he created this post for me and hosted the pics below.

I've been trying to take some close pictures of the markings, but my cameras digital screen isn't working. I scanned the bolt of the rifle and there seems to be a circle or Halfmoon that is on numerous parts. I will need an e-mail address to send the pictures too. There's also a 7 a dot 91 on the barrel. Its 8x57 for sure, whether is was rebarrelled in this calibre??

I have a feeling that its a Turk Mauser, I could be wrong. The marking are very few. Any information would be appreciated; as I intend to get another stock for it I cut the size of the picture to 400x200 pixels.

Any help would be appreciated.....

Are there any markings on the receiver and are you sure it's in 8x57? The rear sight looks Brazilian or possibly argentine, but the stock butt is wrong for those countries since there is a takedown hole.

I'm leaning towards turkish if it is, in fact, in 8x57.

No aribic # on the rear site, graduated 1 to 20? Mauser is a definite 8x57mm; that's the ammo that was given with the rifle. Some markings in front of barrel, where it threads in the receiver ring. Two "V's" on top of each other, facing toward the front sight. The look like a stick man, no other way to describe it. Possible "D", a "V" where the front stock screw attaches to the receiver.

Will do some more cleaning, Bubba varnished & stained the metal!! Will see if I can find more makers marks. Feel free to shoot questions if you want particular information about certain rifle parts.

Looks like the serial number was ground off the receiver as well? Actually the whole thing looks to have been purposely scrubbed of all identifying marks.

Three more scans of the Mauser. All I can do, markings are worn off from use!! Mauser has had a hard life! Ordered a book to try and Identify it; will take some time.

The mag follower has a stamped dot like the cocking bolt handle. Bottom of mag plate has a TCT on it??

I've finally got the mauser identified! Its a Turk 1903 service rifle that was re-barrelled to 8mm. For guys that want to see other such rifles, have a look on this web-site.(3w.272.pair.com/stevewag/bob/bob.html). The fellow is doing DIY customizing.
