1903 Mark I Barrel Marking
I recently purchased a Springfield 1903 Mark I. The barrel is marked H.R. above the flaming bomb. What does the H.R. mean?

Take another look - it is probably HS for High Standard, who made replacement barrels during WWII. Does it have a date?

Sorry. That's a typo. it does read HS and the date 5 44.

It is a replacement barrel manufactured in May, 1944. High Standard barrels if the bore is in good condition, have a very good reputation for accuracy.
