    Union Switch and Signal 1911A1

Acquired this one today. I think the right grip is wrong and the safety is wrong. Let me know what you think. The frame looks to have been reparked. The slide doesn't have the proof P ( maybe an earlier slide??). I do have a slide with a proof P, but it is not positioned on the top and has more wear than this one. It is the slide that is shown in the first 5 pics in the album.
Let me know what you think.

Slide and receiver have been refinished in phosphate. Original finish would be Du-Lite blue over a lightly sandblasted finish. Original finish would look like this one.

Wow, that's a nice looking gun Johnny. I didn't know all US&S pistols were originally blued. Most pictures that I've seen are parked.

Most of the early information on the US&S indicated the finish was phosphate until Charles Clawson brought out his book in 1991 describing the Du-Lite blue finish. The blue was applied over a sandblasted finish, and it does have the appearance of phosphate (Parkerized) finish except for the blue/gray color. The early Remington Rand and Ithaca pistols were also finished in Du-Lite, but changed to phosphate. US&S ended production before switching to phosphate.

To me, the hammer, trigger, slide catch, mag release, barrel, firing pin, ejector, pins and screws look like they are blued. Not too sure about the barrel bushing and thumb safety. The frame, slide, grip safety and mainspring housing are parked.

Can't see enough detail in the photos to tell on most of the parts, but the trigger appears to be in the original bright blue.

I just joined and this is my first post so I can't PM. I have a US&S Type III slide and need Type I. Perhaps we could do a trade. Mine is parkerized and just about perfect.
