No4 Mk2 Valuation?

Greetings all,

I bought this No4 Mk2 about 5-6 years ago from a local shop for a song. Somebody went and replaced the rear sight with a scope mount that didn't hold up to the job. Scope fell off and its been sitting in my safe since. Other day I bump into a guy who's looking to get one, but I'm not really sure what I have.

I'm looking for a valuation of this rifle as it sits: No rear sight, No Bayonet/Scabbard, 3/4 matching Serial Numbers (Receiver, Bolt, Stock), Stock is in definitely used condition, but I would say not abused. From my research I've managed to figure out the date stamping, rifle is stamped with 10/49, so from what I've read its a first year Mk2, serial number in the 141,000's range.

Hard to tell any more without pictures. Condition assumes matching numbers and all parts intact so deduct a bit for the mis-matched number and missing rear sight.

After looking at a friends edition of this refrence I have the 7th edition on the way. Do you find the values to be fairly accurate in your area? I think it may be helpful with identification of models I am less familiar with as well as their bayonets.

I'm still using the 5th and I do my best to pay less than what it lists for and I've been able to do that in quite a few instances. You just have to learn to let the more expensive ones go. Someone else will come along with the price you want.

My local gun shop is usually a lot higher than Petersons. Cabelas is usually just about right on. I have a suspicion they use it in their valuations. Although they have been lower on a few things lately that I've gotten from them. On some other items they are way high like the Yugo Mausers right now. But people are paying it so why not. A gun shop in Reading is usually lower than Petersons and they still can't sell the milsurps. Their clients don't seem to like them much. That's the place I got my K98 and I like going there. They have an P-14 in there that is priced right but I still can't afford it. It's been there nearly a year and I've tried to get them to come down on it but it's a consignment and the guy that owns it keeps complaining that they don't sell it. It's worth his asking price, it's just too much for me and no one else seems to want it. It's all a crapshoot.
