1943 Izhevsk PU Sniper with different surplus ammo

Just to illustrate how important the right ammo is...

I took my 1943 Izhevsk PU sniper to the range a while back to try a few different types of military surplus that I had. I was shooting from a bench with a front sandbag positioned right in front of the magazine. These groups were all fired after the rifle was 'warmed up' with a few practice shots. I did let the rifle cool for a few minutes between groups, but did not delay between shots in the groups, only enough time to eject the spent cartridge and get back on target.

First is the Czechicon light ball with the bxn 86 headstamp. This ammo shoots great in some of my other rifles, too. Very consistent stuff!

Next I tried the Czech light ball (silver tip) with the bxn 65 headstamp. I was very surprised by this group as this ammo shoots great groups in my PSL rifle. I double checked to make sure that the action screws were still tight after this but found no issues with the rifle.

Finally, this is the Russianicon heavy ball ammo with the 188 52 headstamp. I was very please with this group, too. One of the best I've ever shot, in fact, and with 1952 surplus!

    And the rifle...
