My first full wood!
As you can see... Im not much of a poster; more of a lurker. But I finally snagged one and am extremely excited. Prices have been gradually climbing up here in Canada
, so I acted now rather than later.
It is a 41' Ishapore SHTLE.
Im extremely excited about it, and it is all matching (nose cap, sight, magazine, bolt, barrel, receiver, and even a piece of the wood has the numbers stamped in).
I am worried about a DP marking in handguard, but noticed no DP markings on the metal; so I am thinking it may just be a replacement piece of wood and not pertaining to the gun itself... but will further look into it before firing.
The butt stock also has some weird marks I am unsure of (147/35 and an "X" on the left side)
The rifling is strong and looks good, and my overall impression (with all its dings and dents) is its lovely.
Here are some pictures:

The journey of a thousand rifles begins with a single purchase!
Now give it a good cleaning, the metal that is. The bore is probably filthy. I would strip it down and use oven cleaner on it, all over. Don't do that if it's painted though.

Good for you once you get one they seem to attract others of the same lineage a strange thing it is......they are a great thing to own and each one is different to its stable mate I thoroughly enjoy my modest collection I have I hope it brings you a lot of fun & pleasure.
I have just one question though in the pic showing the Rt of the wrist strap it looks like there has been a repair as the wood looks a different colour to the stock normally I think with repairs like that they would also use screw wire to help reinforce the repair perhaps some others may wish to offer their experience with what I have noted, just going by the horizontal and vertical lines guys just behind the strap.

That is a classic case of the butt socket splitting a segment of the butt away due to there nut being a small clearance between the butt socket and the butt. We used to repair these unless the butt was just too oily or was past repair in other ways. But the patch was always dovetailed/undercut at the rear and wood pegged. We never used screw wire and if you used it there, it'd intrude into the stock bolt hole. I suppose you could use wire and like hardwood pegs, you'd just make-good inside the hole
When we used wood pegs on a radius, they always had to be square to the radius

Thanks everyone. I am already on the hunt for another; specifically one with an Indonesian background. It would be nice because my father is Indonesian, and hold a lot of sentimental value to me. Another would be a Long Branch for the Canadian
heritage it holds.
What have I gotten myself into!

So Ive done thorough examination of the metal all over, and there are some markings I am unsure of. For rifles stamped DP on the metal, how faint or distinct will they be, and in what type of font (similiar to the size/font that is stamped on the handguard or more discreet?)

There's actually threads with pics here on the forum to show you. Short answer is they'll be marked and there'll be no doubt. They'll be marked in bold font. Right out where you can't miss it.
