M3 help info

Just pic this up an could use some info if possible. Would anyone know what model this is & is it still possible to get cable ends . I think the end for the power pack cable is missing & would any one know were it would connect on the scope. No battery . If pics are no good please let me know will take more if needed. Thanks for any help.

While most of your infrared sniperscope No.1 20,000 volts looks intact. Most of major wiring is shot. I have attached a photo of how it should look. It appears that someone attempted to repair the main cable and removed the coupling on both ends of the main cable. It appears you have the power pack but I do not know if has been modified. The scope runs on the old vacuum tube technology. Unlike the previous infrared scopes, this unit did not require a specially carbine receiver to mount and when mounted to either a M1 or M2 Carbine became a M3 Carbine. No remarking of the gun was required. The battery is an old 6 volt wet battery which the power pack boosted the power to 20,000 volts to run the system. I have heard that some folks have used a 6 volt motorcycle battery as a replacement. Needless to say, 20,000 volts will knock you on you *ss if you do not watch yourself.

Do you have the original box and the manual for the scope?

Fjruple thanks for the info & pis. Looks like it needs a lot of cables . I bought 2 repo manuals
TM5- 9342 & TM5- 9341. If I have the # 1 model it looks like the power pack I have is not the right one ??? by the book. I would guess the cables & box are impossible to find. I see a lot of scopes on the net & most don't have the cables. I don't have the original box or battery either but will keep looking that is the fun with them carbines. Will check Walmart in the morning for the cables & box . Still happy in what I have will look good on the table at your gun show.

The cables and battery parts are tough to find. The storage boxes do on occasion come up on e-bay. The problem with most boxes are they have all of the separators missing or they are often damaged from leaking batteries. Good luck on finding your missing parts.

You should have no problem going to 'Wallyworld' to find parts. Afterall everything comes from China these days!

Hello, Your power supply is for the earlier scope. It did not put out anywhere near 20000 volts. Cable ends are available at Radio shack. I believe they are called bnc connectors. Cables can be custom made from shielded wire cable. Not sure what it was called but it was some sort of coax. Original power supplies can be converted to transistorized power because most of the originals are junk inside. I have done a few.

Piercesaw thanks for the info . I guess I got a mix master ??. The guy I got it from don't know nothing about it & neither do I . Looks like some one converted the power cable also. In the 2 books I have the power pack looks like it is for the M2 ??? & the scope is for the # 1 ???. Confusing but fun . Will have a look cor them cable ends at Radio shack witch here is is Sources . I guess this cables that are missing will be very hard to find.

I've owned a few set ups over the year, including allot of NOS parts. Finally sold them all off awhile back to fund new rifles. For the longest time the hardest part to find for me was the mounting bars and clamp, until a large crate was uncovered and now there's more mounts than there are scopes. The cables are by far the hardest parts to find, followed by the tool kit that comes with the scope. The scope is definitely a M3 scope, but the battery doesn't look like any of the batteries for the M3 I owned. There's also a canvas carrying bag that allows you to carry the carbine with the scope mounted. The scope set up is definitely a conversation piece and gives the carbine a whole new look, but there's no way I'd want to be humping one around in a war zone, even if it was just on perimeter watch.

Piercesaw Found some of them cable ends. Most of the electronic stores carry them with is good to know. There is even a T bar I don't know if that can be used like the one on the scopes. Will see if we an find some of that cable ???.
