    1931 NM rifle

I bought this rifle in 1985, the serial number is 1373022 and the star gaged barrel is dated SA 7-29. This rifle came with a SA SPG cartouched "C" stock with the serial number 1497163 and D-1836 stamped near the rear swivel. This rifle came with two NS bolts, one having the headless cocking piece.

I sent John Beardicon an email in 2003 about this rifle and additional detailed later on. Mr Beard replied that the C 128 code on the barrel identifies it as having been made at Rock Island during WW1. The left over barrel blank along with a huge shipment of parts and stocks were sent to Springfield in 1926. Mr Beard also said that
this rifle is a 1931 NM rifle but was retained in military service and not sold. Even though the barrel is stamped SA, it is a Rock Island barrel blankAttachment 59188Attachment 59189Attachment 59190Attachment 59191Attachment 59192Attachment 59193

One of the "headless" type cocking pieces, which, if I'm not mistaken, was developed by John Garandicon.

Here's my 1924 NM with one:
