An original April 1944 Springfield M1 Rifle
Sometime in early 1993, I received a call from a friend in northern Wisconsin to inquire if I was interested in a inexpensive M1
rifle. He was a antique firearms collector and not interested in modern weapons, but he was looking at some guns at a veterans estate sale and found this M1, condition was not that nice and nobody was interested, I told him to buy it for me. When I received this rifle, I found that it was a complete early 1944 rifle that
had never been rebuilt nor had parts changed-out. The bore was bright but the TE was 4.0. this rifle was well used but still shot a nice target.

Your rifle looks IDENTICAL to mine (SA 2,750, XXX) down to the patina and chipped handguard. Makes me wonder where the 2,700,000 serial ranges were sent.

Wow, GREAT rifle and very scarce in original condition like that! How about you and Garrett get together and write an article on them for the GCA
Journal, I love two-gun articles... and so do readers.
Real men measure once and cut.

You have a very nice 2,7 mil rifle and a lot better looking than mine. How did you come by it ? and was it original or some restoration ?

It's original, as manufactured. The stock it lightly sanded but the acceptance stamp is visible. A friend of mine was selling off some of his collection. I've owned it for about five years.

Here's a link to slide show. Pictures not the best, but threw it together quickly.

Hey Chris, That's the strangest looking carbine I have ever seen. But she is pretty.

Newscotlander< nice photos of your rifle. A few comments: Your lock bar on the rear sight is the third type not the second type (look at my photo and you will see the round bevel at each end on the type 2). This serial number range could use either type 2 or type 3 lock bar. Also the gas cylinder lock screw could be either the single slot or the poppet valve in this serial range too.
