Anyone with experience with RIA 1911A1 GI copy?

Real 1911A1s are way too pricy for me. I looked at a Rock Island Armory 1911A1 GI, a copy of the government model. It looked quit close to the real version. I'm just looking for an inexpensive plinker that looks like the 1940s version. Just wondering if anyone has fired one? Rock Island Armory not to be confused with Rock Island Arsenal. --TIA

The RIA is a good 1911 for the price. I like used Colt's that run around $650 to $795, but may show a lot of wear.

I have a 1911 just as you want, and I started with the RIA. Then got rid of it due to the lowered ejection port. Cannot say if they still all have this feature but if you look at originals pistols you can see the port does not go much below the top line of the slide flat.

Wound up with a Springfield Armory 1911, replacing all of the controls with WWII parts. And the grips also. For me it was the best solution. Now if I could just find a WWII slide...

I would look at the Auto Ordnance 1911's too. They are very close copy to the G.I. 45. They are inexpensive too. I know there rep in the past wasn't good but I have heard they are very nice guns now.

I have an Auto Ord and its about perfect for fit and function...no problems at all.

I bought a very nice used one for $300 at a local gun show and was quite pleased with it. I used it primarily with my Ciener 22 conversion kit and it ran like a top.

the Auto Ordnance WWII model would be a better choice, it's very close to the look & feel, finish of a WWII GI model, plus it's actually made in the USA
