New M1 carbine at my house

I just traded a nice Plainfield carbine for a Springfield Armory receivered carbine. I can't find a lot on information here about them so I'd like any info or opinions the group has. I read here that the receivers were cast and somewhere else they were forged???

I haven't had time to check all the parts for markings yet but it has a M2 stock and appears to be all USGI parts with a flat bolt and a barrel marked SA 8 51 that almost appears new. The entire gun is parked, not blued.

I know it's not US military, but I think I've got a pretty good shooter here, what's the general opinion of the group?

This is where I found the info that the receivers were forged, not cast. I've used parts made by LMT in several AR15's I've built and never found them lacking.

I agree. I've had two of them and never had a problem with either. I may wind up with the last one back, the guy that wound up with it is making noises about trading it off. Depending on what he wants it may come back home.

Haven't fired a Springfield Armory Carbine, but cycled two by hand. They felt just as smooth as a USGI. I fired the earlier Plainfield and it functioned flawlessly and had been well used. Comparing the hand cycling, the Springfields felt better, but maybe because they had less use. The finish quality looked better on the SA to me.

I had a Plainfield in the late 80s or early 90s. I got it for less than $100 back when I was an FFL and got USGI Blue Skies for $129 (in multiples of 3 or more) It was every bit the weapon that the USGI ones were when it came to function and reliability. I put a GI stock on it, as it had a cheapo with a hard rubber butt plate.
