I have a No4 mk1 cruciform bayonet with a very feint U.N. marking electro pencilled onto the upper part of the cruciform part of the blade. I believe that this bayonet has gone through a factory refurb/refinish after the marking was applied. All the other markings appear to be original. I have never seen a U.N. marking on any other Britishproduced bayonet. I would guess that this was done for the Korean war? Does any-one know if this was a common practice for British equipment used on U.N. operations or could it have been done by another country after it had been sold as U.K. surplus to, perhaps, Ireland or a Commonwealth country? I'm sorry that I'm not able to post pictures.
