No32 telescopes

I hope that I am not treading on anyones toes, but I have been asked about it three times now. There is a No32 Mk1 telescope on Australian Ebay. The seller has ow mentioned that there is no grat and crosswire visible and the picture is cloudy. That's not a problem given the relative availability of a spare No42 for the lenses. But the lack of a grat and X-wire could spell bad, bad news because it could mean that the diahragm or graticule block is missing. If its there, but damaged, you can still usually see the broken bits of wire. To make and fit a new grat block is what we engineers call xxxxing expensive. If the cursor slide behind it is missing, and you can't tell until its stripped, that that's what we Army engineers call 'sheeeeeeesh, that's even more xxxxing expensive'

It's academic that the clicks still work. So if you are going to bid........, just bear this in mind.

Sheeeeesh, Ebay again. The No32 telescope at the start of this thread has 15 hours to go and is at $940 Aust or £440. I should think it'll collect a good slice of auction fever at the end............ for something that's probably incomplete

I can't see anything wrong with his listing. It's only people who aren't taking his word for what he says in the initial description that are asking questions. After all- what part of ...

"This Sniper Scope is being auctioned in [as is condition] with no reserve. In its present condition this Sniper Scope is suitable only for display purpose's, or could be broken down and used for spare parts. I have been advised this Sniper Scope can be refurbished to good working order, but at great expense."

I don't think Peter's comment was as much to do with the description, as the rabid response from bidders over something that is described by the seller basically as junk. The seller obviously tried costing repairs and decided it's not worth it.

Yes, it's auction fever at it's worst!
PS- I have no connection to or prior knowledge of the seller, but I do take my hat off to him for answering the questions as best he can.

you're right - but he had to be asked the same question three times about the posts before the answer finally came out.
But to be fair he does admit it's junk in the description.

There's a little pre-quel to this. I was asked via a third party about repairing a scope in similar verbal condition to this. I stated what I've said already and it went quiet. That is, if it's not all there internally, within the bounds of reason, then it's scrap!

When you consider the quantity that I have just scrapped in the past, for their spare arts value, without thought or ceremony.... phew! That's why I thought I'd show how to rebuild a busted tube...., something that I didn't think I'd ever do and something we'd never do in the Army, except as a discussion r as an apprentices test piece etc

It's at $1,000 Aust already......, for a wall hanger......, phew!

Very close Son - $1,100 in the end. Hope it's not the final piece in the jiigsaw for a 4t shooting project.
