Ithaca Gun

Thought anyone owning an Ithaca Gun or Pistol would like to know that the factory that made them, in Ithaca NY, is being torn down to make room for condominums. I visited the the site other day and was watching this take place. So sad to see this happening.

I often wondered where that factory was located. Was it on the hill and right below Cornell University? I recall a smoke stack of sorts in that position/area...was there also a place called Llenroc adjacent? Can't recall.

Does that gun factory still produce those guns somewhere?

Do recall some students setting up a log cabin on the arts quad and a history professor looking out the window muttering, "I'm gonna dress up like an Indian and show then what that life was really like back then"...L.Pierce Williams was his name.

It's sad to see these kinds of factories idle, let alone torn down for more condominiums. I sure wish we could find ways to make better use of them, who knows, maybe actually build something there. I'll bet that place was quite a sight to see during the war years, when they were at full production. Looks like my recently acquired '44 Ithaca is gonna be an orphan now...

Sully, you are correct on all counts. I believe they are still being produced in Sandusky Ohio. BTW how did you know it was on the hill?

I studied Botany there in the late 70's...after I got the degree I got a kick out of the fact that it was a "Batchelor of Arts" and after all that head banging science, too. Best class was that European History class, though by Williams, "The principles of enlightenment died in the trenches of WW1", so be it.

Ithaca is Gorgeous not just because of the Gorges on either side of Campus. You couldn't have sited a factory in a prettier place...and maybe is why the guns are so prized as they are just happier that most 1911's...

Sully, Ithica was purchased by a fellow wanting to keep the name and company going. He moved the equipment to Upper Sandusky Ohio, not to far from Camp Perry. They currently produce Shotguns.

I have two Ithaca products. One is a beautiful 1943 vintage 1911A1 and the other is a beautiful 1949 vintage wife. Would never part with one of them, but the other might be available for trade!!

Naw, just kidding...........could never part with either one!

Haven't been to Ithaca in a few years. Actually, for a small industrial city in New York state, as I recall was a very decent place. Have an ex-police Ithaca M37 riot shotgun that lives down in the lower level room stashed near the computer. It's a true "Bump in the Night" tool.
