Hi Folks--
I just purchased a pretty clean .22 STLE MK IV*. The one issue with the rifle is the lack of markings to identify its manufacturer or remanufacturer. Originally the rifle was a No 1, MKIII* manufactured by BSA in 1918 with a serial number of J77516. Most if not all of the major parts carry this serial number. At some point it was remanufactured into a .22 MKIV*. The only possible date is from the BNP proof marking. I am guessing from about 1955. There are no markings that I can see externally on the barrel and it does not look like its been rebored and than resleeved to .22. At the rear is a very light "A. P" on the left side where the bolt enters into the receiver. And on the right a capital R and S which appear to separate stampings.
What should I be looking at so I can photograph for the forum? Any help would be deeply appreciated.
Cheers
