    Enfield No 4 MK1 Question

    I picked up what I believe to be at Maltby Enfield #4 Mark 1 rifle the other day based on the 1 prefix in the serial number, What I have not been able to figure out is the 000000 underneath the Serial number, I have attached a Pic. BTW hello to all. Another refugee from the Old board.

    It looks like something was obliterated. Can you get a better pic of that specific area? Sometimes the digital cam will pic up what the eye can't get...

    It's not a Maltby, but a BSA. That little character below the safety is a very poorly struck "B". The circles look like something was being canceled out but I haven't seen that type of canceling form before so I couldn't say for sure.

    If there was something else underneth, I THINK it might be a crown, And thanks for the help with the BSA ID.. I wasnt sure on the Maltby, the book I bought by Stratton wasnt to clear or I just couldnt find it. Thank you for the Info !! I picked up this and a Remington 1917 at an auction, My First Enfield. Thanks again.
