    1903 Springfield Star Gauge Barrel?

I bought a real nice 1903 Springfield at a gun show last weekend. Really clean in great shape. Serial number 843956, finger grove stock with S under the switch with a J.F.C. inspector stamp. The barrel is dated 3-18 with an A under the date. It also has a five point star at 3 o'clock on the end of the barrel. The dealer said it was a star gauged barrel. I told him it was not the correct shaped star and it should be at 6 o'clock. Any idea where it came from? If somebody was trying to fake a star gauge, you would think they would use the correct shaped star and put in the right place. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

1918 there were anyway no star gauges, so don't worry too much on it. If someone was stupid enough to put a stark mark on a 1918 barrel, he definitely is stupid enough to also put it in the wrong place too.

We'd love to see this rifle too...and the offending mark while you're at it...

Yep, a fake - they had more important things to do in 1918!

Pictures of the five point star at 3 o'clock. Anybody have an idea where it could have been done.
    Thanks

The guy who sold it to you did this work. Stock painted? Can't tell for sure. Really looks faked-up and no accident.
