M16A1 or M16A2?
M16A1 or M16A2?
I sold one of these butts on Ebay as a M16A1 as many here has ID'd these as, but the man who bought it said it was a M16A2. He said it was still a great deal and gave me good FB, but I would like to know for sure what I am selling and don't want to sell something miss identified. Can someone tell me the difference in the A1 and A2?

UPDATE: The man told me the difference is in the size. The M16A1 is shorter than the M16A2. I took a look at all my butt stocks and noticed 3 were shorter than the others. So, when people were ID'ing them on here they saw all the Butts on a table from an angle that didn't show the size difference.

The guys here are pretty good with at least 95% have been or still are serving members of their respective countries, I am positive they would have identified the two types of stocks but that is good that you got +ve feedback some e bayer's are right tossers and just hammer people for no good reason when the mis information was due to pure in experience. I hope you sell all the others.

Heads up everybody. Ebay removed the other M16A1 butt I had put up. I sold a few before they removed this one. So, I guess the shooting in Las Vegas has them being more stringent. I will sell the few I have left at flea market, I guess. I did sell a couple here as well.

Try putting them up under a different name instead. Different description...

Agreed. What title are you using? How does the description read?
eBay has automated systems to remove what they seam inappropriate — not somebody (capable of human judgement) sifting through items.

There are also a couple of versions of the M16A1 buttstock. The early Viet Nam era buttstocks had a rounded "rubber" buttpad and a hinged sling swivel. In 1971 that stock was replaced with an M161 buttstock that had a hard plastic checkered buttplate with a trap for a cleaning kit and a fixed sling swivel.
