Welcome to the Forum Chris. What's the story on the Type 56 and the SLR, in so much as are they live rifles? If they are live I assume that they are just straight pull single shot "affairs" or are they deacts? The SLR looks to be in excellent condition.

really like the SLR, learnt to shoot centre fire on one of those, back in the good old days before stupid gun laws

cheers guys
both are live fire but thanks for our laws sadly just single shot straight pull, but they are on my ticket for range use and AOLQ so both have been used in the field which makes a nice change,
the akms is a Romanian Cugir imported in 2012 and was 'distressed' by the previous owner to give it an older used look....... you either love it or hate it lol
the L1a1 was a bucket list rifle as it was the 1st semi auto center fire i ever fired as a spotty 17 year old many years ago
recently picked up a 1943 Lee Enfield no4 mk1 (Longbranch) as i have many fond memories of those whilst in the Abingdon Army cadets even more years ago, its still lovely and smooth to cycle and shoot..... one of my favorites prob lol !!!

Welcome to the L1 club and the best forum on the internet. Very nice rifle, will you be going for a set of woodwork too, or sticking with the plastic?

I have tried the Tritium Vials that can be found on the net, I found that even with the largest ones that would fit the illumination that they gave was very poor, if anyone knows where vials with a decent output can be found please let me know.

And to keep it company, here is a picture of my LuxDefTec Anglo Custom Rifle L1A1, out on the range enjoying itself, along with my 1944 BSA 4(T)

I think that you have the wrong impression of the tritium sight light output Buccaneer. The light really was true of the expression '.....as dim as a toc-H lamp'. The glow JUST made the extreme tip of the grat glow with a dim deep red, well, almost nothing. But in the dark with some ambient light it was sufficient to put the tip of the grat on the target. It couldn't be any brighter otherwise it'd obscure your hard earned night vision capabiliy. Don't forget, the SUSAT/SUIT wasn't a night vision sight, it was just a means of pointing the grat at and on the target. And think of it another way. If it was a brighter light inside the sight, anyone in YOUR field of view with a pair of NV goggles or decent binos could IMMEDIATELY see your grat glowing even more so, because he's looking at it through YOUR magnified OG lens.
Nope, the SUIT sight illum was deliberately '.......as dim as a toc-H lamp' for good reasons.
