What happened here with these 1911's

I hope this is okay to post here since the auctions are ended, if not maybe we can move it to the auction gossip sub. Anyway, I am still learning about 1911's (as are we all I guess!) but I am mystified what happened with these auctions I was watching some time ago. Why on earth did the incomplete project in worse condition go for way more than the one ready to go? That seems like a ridiculous price for that condition when they were comparable condition and the same year.

Looks like the pricey one had the “Black Army” finish which is much sought after. But I know very little about the handgun side of things. I imagine someone will be along with some concrete knowledge.

The more expensive one while missing parts has better "bones".

look at the pitting (and 0 original finish) on the low price one, and the original finish (and flat lines of the edges) on the expensive one.

It may be a case that who ever did get it needed certain parts from it he could not find else where. Or there could have been a bidding war between two who wanted it. I have seen that happen before. They get caught up in the bidding.
