Up visiting my mother this morning, she's 100 and still living by herself.
She was a bit toey, it seems that she just watched a news article where they named a DC10 Water Bomber "Nancy Bird".
Well that went down like a lead balloon with mum, Nancy was Family, a couple of years older than my mother, but in the old days they got on pretty well.
Mom has never forgiven Nancy for losing her engagement ring.......I quizzed the old girl and couldn't keep from laughing.

It seems Auntie Nance took mom up for a joy flight in her new plane back in the late thirties, she was showing off a bit, lots of loops and stall turns......that was ok, except she gave no warning of the manouver beforehand, mom clasped the side of the cockpit and her ring got caught, a sudden turn to the other side had mom tossed that way, her ring coming loose and the next loop had it out and gone.

Nancy Bird Walton is an Australian Icon, but my mom recalls her as "that bloody Nancy".
