Pls ID Brass Plaque on my Enfield

I have a 1915 BSA SMLE that has been FTD’d at Ishapore in 1947. A brass plaque has been screwed the RHS of the buttstock that has the following markings - SAU-CTE. HSN
    3488
Hope someone can identify the reason for fixing this plaque on the butt. The plaque is not flimsy and is well- stamped. Thanks..........Sam

As someone always says: "Pictures will help a lot."

    Sounds interesting though.
