Guess this a "Hey J.B." Rem TG in RIA packaging.

Hey J.B.,

Couldn't tweak the Remington A3' trigger guard that was causing a fifth round jam in an 03' I recently posted about and get it to work. Decided to find a milled tg for a decent price. Found a place that advertised a handful of 03' USGI NOS parts. They had the best prices anywhere for parts like that and of course I took it with a grain of salt and pepper. Ordered the tg over the phone (They are old school) two days ago and got it this evening. When I opened the box up my jaw dropped a little. Flimsy USPS box and no packing material. Pulled out I hoped an undamaged nice green 03' tg in obviously old arsenal packaging. Saw tags underneath the old time arsenal wrap, "Rock Island Arsenal" and lots of small print. Couldn't believe it. Sure you have seen lots of this stuff before but it was new to me. Took photos as I unwrapped the tg like a valuable mummy. Not so sure I will use it. Might keep it as a reference for Remington 03' original metal treatment color and machining marks. After I took photos sprayed the cosmo off and took photos. Figure the tg was never mounted and Remington sent all of their parts off to arsenals to be done with whatever. This tg is GRAY. Wadda' you think?

Good move. I'd guess it's a re-pack. RIA did a lot of parts refinishing and storage. JB will tell us for sure.

Hey Pete,

My guess is when Remington finished with their rearsenal contract they shipped new parts loose to RIA in this instance. TG has handling marks but has not been used I think (The color), like you said, the professor will probably know.

Some of the items repacked by RIA weren't even repacked. This is the screwdriver for the Model 1911/1911A1 pistol, and all they did was staple a note on the original unopened package. The original manufacture date was May 1944 by the National Needle Co.

I concur with Pete Davis. The trigger guard is an arsenal re-pack. Many arsenal re-packs have been repaired and refinished. But, as Johnny Peppers pointed out, some are not. Some remain in original factory packaging. Some were shipped in bulk and have been re-packed. The re-pack date on yours appears to be 12/54.

Judging from what I see on my computer screen, I would say that your Remington trigger guard has been refinished. The factory finish on most Remington trigger guards was a bit darker than what I see on yours. Nevertheless, it's close and would be entirely appropriate for some rifles.

Didn't think I had a treasure, but to a rookie 03' collector, the trigger guard came in very unexpected packaging. Just figured I'd get one in NOS condition as advertised. Never saw a gray 03' part before.

Well Remington did make their parts using the old Rock Island Arsenal tooling so the packaging is actually correct.....sort of.
