I were hunting for some Enfield wood for a few projects I have going and found this like new original stock and cheek pad. I recall buying a box with several stocks and smaller boxes of M1 parts way back when. I think it will make a great wall hanger.



There was a back story but you must always buy the item before he story.

I have one more complete parts set and DCM receiver with a nice stock and don't think flooding the market with another persudo sniper is in my plan.

I found this deluxe walnut blank (rear section) of a two piece walnut blank that was purchased many years ago. I had forgot about ! Perfect for single shot rifle or a shotgun, excellent figure on both side and ends sealed-up. I do plan on selling this wood. The M1 rifle stock is early Winchester no trap from one of my riflesAttachment 103239

It's amazing that WRA's priority rating was very low and they had real trouble getting material. Early on they were in imminent danger of running out of steel and having to shut down production. They had plenty of their own chrome moly steel on hand for commercial rifles but they could not get permission to use it. Finally the project manager took his job in his hands and authorized it on his own until they got more steel. Those are all the A and CM parts we see.

A is "Amola," a steel alloy developed by Chrysler, and CM is Winchester Chrome Molybdenum steel. GCA solved this old WRA mystery when Tony Pucci speculated it was chrome moly and sent some CM parts for chem lab testing that confirmed it. Bruce Canfield later re-confirmed it from the Pugsley papers he acquired and also a memo from T. Boak authorizing its use.

GCA members have solved most of the mysteries of Garand collecting and the GCA Journal has published them. If you're not a member you should be, it's $25 well spent. Just sayin.

There was a story that Winchester was short of wood so they dug into the special figure wood to make M1 stocks to carry on production. Very nice.

I would sure bet these fancy walnut no trap Winchester stocks were produced for the Educational Order M1 rifles. Those stocks could have been set aside for M70 Super Grades until needed to help complete the E.O. contract. Afternoon sunlight helps enhance the photosAttachment 103240Attachment 103241
