    Kirk Douglas

From Wikipedia- "He joined the United Statesicon Navy in 1941, shortly after the United States entered World War II, where he served as a communications officer in anti-submarine warfare aboard USS PC-1137.[1] He was medically discharged in 1944 for war injuries sustained from the accidental dropping of a depth charge" He died today at age 103 years. One of the greats. Tom

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Yes they were real actors then pretty soon all the actors will be out of work as CGI will take over from them, I remember Ginger Rogers, Shirely Temple, Chuck Conners, Rick Jason, Vic Morrow, Duncan Renaldo, Leo Carrillo and more as being the last of the brood I got to watch and hear all the favorites everyone else liked.
Of course dad was fond of Vera Lynn and that genera of music due to his war service but without fail every morning on the ABC which he liked to listen to whilst having a shave before he opened up our shop a "Scottish Soldier" would play, throughout the day dad would whistle "China Doll" and "Beautiful Dreamer" even now just putting the words down makes me think of those days I was only 28 when he passed which for me was way to early......

Sad to hear of his death. Definitely one of the great's!
His starred in Stanley Kubrick's "Paths of Glory"; this was banned in France for many years, due to the subject matter. WWI Frenchicon Army executions of their own soldiers. That's worth a look.

The death of Kirk Douglas gave me pause to wonder who is left from the days of actual movies. Can't think of any. I liked his movies but, my favorite was "Lonely Are the Brave" with Walter Matthau.
Vera Lynn was mentioned. I listen to her music a lot. She's 102.
